
In 1990, I was awarded a scholarship by Stevens Institute of Technology in the USA. I had obtained three perfect scores in my achievement tests in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
All the dialogue in Sri Lanka in the early ‘80s was focused on development (සංවර්ධනය). It was even the larger portion in Social Studies text books in schools. Here, I had landed in the most developed country in the world. I would soon find out what a developed country looked like. What is the difference? How did they do it?
